A New Beginning
To all of you reading this, I've just started my new post at the evil empire. Yes, I know, I'm no longer working for the gleaming ivory tower of academia but rather the dark grey of commercialism. I speak of course of Microsoft, and I speak of it with a great awe in my voice for I am still a neophyte enjoying the newly conferred powers of buying power, free soda, and urban sprawl.
Seriously though, I've gotten things set up out here with little to no SNAFUs. Really what the world needs is another layer of indirection. It wouldn't be nearly so hard to do all of this moving if you didn't have to worry about changing your (multiple) addresses with various companies, change the car registration, take care of proof of citizenship, etc. Thanks to everyone that helped get me out here. I'm referring more to the practical matters like getting from point A to point B with 2 bags and a cage of chinchillas and no car.
I have something to say to a certain group of people who, when told about my new home, would say "... but it rains all the time out there!". The word rain means different things to different people. To those of us in New Orleans right now, it includes 165 mph winds and enough water to drown a building. To most people living a normal life on the east coast, it runs a gamut from "sprinkling" to "downpour". To residents of Seattle, it means mist. It does not rain here in the traiditional east coast sense. It mists. In fact sometimes foggy will pass as rain. To those who fear the lack of sun as much as the precipitation so often tied to it, I say to you that the summer weather has been gorgeous. I've been here 4 weeks now and seen "rain" 3 times. I expect that the winter will be quite grey.
'Tis all for now. I need to go home and tend to a sick computer. I'm not sure what's wrong with him, but whatever it is it's keeping me from playing games and doing other important activities. Like listening to music. Or emailing friends.
